The MAMAC Pays Tribute to Alexander Calder

The celebrations continue! On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Maeght Foundation, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice pays tribute to Alexander Calder with an unprecedented exhibition. See you there, until September 7, 2014.
By Justine Fiordelli

A major figure in modern art, Alexander Calder was an American painter and sculptor closely linked to the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. As part of the festivities and running until September 7, the MAMAC in Nice currently presents this must-see show paying tribute to the artist. Conducted in close collaboration with Olivier Kaeppelin, director of the Maeght Foundation, it brings together no less than fifty works representative of the artist’s career.

On the program: wire sculptures, bronzes, mobiles, “stabiles”, but also works on paper such as engravings and lithographs highlighting his work in color. For those of you who have never visited the MAMAC, a masterpiece by Alexander Calder has been present on the forecourt of the mueum since 1970. If this exhibition features major works by Alexander Calder, it is also the opportunity to highlight the close links between the Maeght family and the talented sculptor. Providing plenty of material to discover, or rediscover, the ensemble of their collaboration.
