The MAMAC Museum Revisits its Classics with the Exhibition “Collectors”

On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Nice (MAMAC) spotlights more than 200 major works from its permanent collection, for a rare retrospective that demonstrates many of the major artistic trajectories from 1960 to today.
By Mélissa Darré

Since opening on June 21, 1990, the MAMAC has earned a place among the greatest museums of modern and contemporary art in Europe. To celebrate its quarter century, this prestigious establishment now presents a lovely flashback over its history, via a monumental exhibition "Collectors," on display until May 10, 2015.

The program spotlights the masterpieces of its amazing collection, through the prism of a new hang realized across a surface of 4,000m2 spread over three floors. Of the many gems on display from its permanent collection, Niki de Saint Phalle’s boundless creativity and Yves Klein’s blue-tinted ingenuity hold a special place.

In addition to admiring works by figures of American Pop Art, French New Realism or the School of Nice, the video program provides a glimpse of the importance the museum gives to audiovisual production. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover the history, encounters and aspirations that have made the MAMAC’s reputation over the years.
