Refuge d’Art: In the Footsteps of Andy Goldsworthy

Want to live an unforgettable experience and discover the beauty of the Digne region? Refuge d'Art is an innovative project that combines contemporary art, hiking and rural heritage.
By Justine Fiordelli

Organized in partnership with the Gassendi Museum and the Geological Reserve of Haute-Provence, Refuge d'Art is a one-of-a-kind art trail. Created by British artist Andy Goldsworthy and combining both art and hiking, it offers a 150 km trail through the stunning scenery of the Digne region. Unique in Europe, this tour allows hikers to discover the vastness of the environment while having the opportunity to stop in one of the seven “refuges” restored by Andy Goldsworthy in person: Chapelle Sainte-Madeleine, Ferme Belonn Vieil Esclangon... Shelter in one of them for the night, or simply the time of a well-deserved break!

On the way, three Sentinels (dry-stone cairns made by Andy Goldsworthy) are also part of the trail. As for the logistics, know that the journey can be shortened. You can opt for the itinerant 150 km hike over ten days, or choose the express hike. Suitable for beginners, the latter allows participants to visit only the shelters of their choice, over a few hours. So, are you ready to go?
