Provence in the Snow

When Provence dons its winter coat, something magical and exceptional comes little by little to settle over the landscape. The leaves have completely fallen from the trees, temperatures have dropped and the mild weather gradually gives way to the first snowflakes, to the delight of locals.

After harvest and the misty mornings, the winter season gradually takes over. The days get shorter, the trees are bare and the cold intensifies. Provence is ready at last to welcome its first snowflakes. If they often appear in November, they sometimes wait until February, leaving locals nostalgic and excited about the idea of finally enjoying the first ski runs of Provence.

When the time comes, a thick white carpet comes to dress the landscape of Provence and settle on the houses of the villages, each more charming than the next. From the Vésubie Valley to the Alps of Haute- Provence, it is time for the magic of winter: sunny walks, open fires, enjoying regional produce, ski, seasonal harvests... The atmosphere is warm and enjoyable.

At the foot of the oak forests of the Mont Ventoux in the Vaucluse, everyone eagerly awaits the winter truffle season, which runs between November and March for the delight of gourmets. In February, the magic of winter in Provence intensifies with the exceptional flowering of the almond tree, a fruit tree known for its spectacular pinkish-white blooms, and mimosa, known for its yellow flowers and gentle perfume, both announcing the gradual arrival of spring.
