Hyères A Perfect Family Destination

With its 40 kilometers of coastline, Hyères is one of the favorite destinations in the Var for tourists traveling together as a family. Young and old alike enjoy the various picture-postcard landscapes of this city, with its famous palm trees, but also the many cultural sites to visit.

Its Strong Point: the diversity of the landscape

Endless beaches, salt marshes or countryside in bloom; to start, Hyères offers a large choice of landscapes, that are very different yet only two steps one from the other, something that will enthrall the youngest among us. As for the vegetation, the town is nicknamed Hyères-Les-Palmiers, palmiers meaning palm trees, because of the more than 8,000 tropical trees that are planted there. Within this town, known for being as pleasant in summer as winter, the spotlight is also given to the iris, thanks to the Anfoso family greenhouse, and to mimosa.

A City Steeped in History

Hyères is also considered a cultural capital with its archeological site Olbia, its medieval castles and its religious monuments dating back a number of centuries. To visit elegantly with the whole family is the Villa Noailles, the work of the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens dating from 1923. A gem and a listed monument, it hosts many cultural events, including Design Parade, the international design festival.

To Visit in the Region

A few minutes by boat, just opposite Hyères, are located the famous “Gold Islands:” Port Cros Island, Levant and Bagaud Island, but especially Porquerolles Island, which is absolutely not to be missed. From atop the semaphore tower of this island, which is the biggest and most famous of the four, the view is stunning and will definitely astound young and old alike… And to enjoy an exceptional panorama over the Hyères Islands, there’s nothing better than a little detour via the Rayol Estate, located at the foot of the Maures mountain range in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer.
