Born in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban, a village located in the Alps of Haute Provence, Bernar Venet is a French visual artist famous notably for his steel sculptures. In the context of the Marseille 2013, European Capital of Culture program, the Regards de Provence Museum dedicates two exhibitions to him until next October 6.

The first exhibition is dedicated to the works of Bernar Venet created between 1961 and 1966, a period during which this brilliant artist-sculptor, now resident of the United States, lived in Provence. Painted cardboard, tar paintings, coal sculptures; black largely dominates this first collection.

The most famous works of this internationally-renowned and visionary artist make up the second exhibition dedicated to Bernar Venet in the Marseille museum, and notably his “Indeterminate Lines,” truly characteristic of his artistic style.
