An Artistic Feast by Provencal Chefs

On display at Marseille’s Museum of Civilisations from Europe and the Mediterranean (MuCEM) since last October, the exhibition Food examines our relationship to food. For the occasion, twenty chefs responded to an unusual culinary challenge: to create a dish or a dessert inspired by one of the works presented.

After stops in Geneva and Sao Paulo, the Food exhibition has landed at the MuCEM in Marseille. Running until March 9, 2015, it asks 37 artists of all ages from around the world to address various issues related to our relationship with food. A thorny issue considered from political and ideological perspectives, via creations each more intriguing than the last.

For the occasion, 20 chefs and restaurateurs who have endorsed the "Tables 13" Charter of Commitment lent themselves to a game of reinterpretation. Sharing similar values – whether in their selection of fine produce, or their Provence inspired cuisine – each one took pleasure in creating a tribute dish or dessert, in response to the work that particularly affected them in the exhibition.

Newly Michelin starred, Ludovic Turac revisited Romanian artist Mircea Cantor’s square meter of garlic “Consequences Underestimated” in the form of a Rubik's Cube-like “Cub'aïoli”. A culinary challenge with a backdrop of social reflection, which proves to what degree art can whet our appetites!
