A Bucolic Wander in the Tinctorial Plant Conservatory Garden

Dubbed the “green village of the Luberon”, the garden of the Tinctorial Plant Conservatory in Lauris is a special place reserved for both nature lovers and the simply curious who wish to unravel the mysteries of so-called "vegetable dyes”. Located in Lauris, on the terraces of the town castle, this ethno-botanical garden is entirely dedicated to dye plants and is unique in Europe. Divided into several parts, it invites visitors to discover no less than 250 species of plants traditionally used in food and cosmetics, but also for dyeing textiles and the manufacture of inks and paints.

Upon arrival, visitors take part in a bucolic walk, offering breathtaking views over the Durance valley. On site, the circuit extends over 2,800 m² and offers a magical and exotic setting. Between uses of dye plants, discovering different species, practical workshops and a bookstore / shop to read up on the subject, visitors have plenty on hand to learn everything there is to know about these famous plant species that produce natural dyes. Tempted? The Tinctorial Plant Conservatory garden is open all summer until 31 October 2014. Don’t miss it!
